I would strongly suggest those that are just starting out on the path to pick this book up. I was very impressed with the information and the way in which it was written.
What impressed me the most was the chapter regarding the different paths Ms. Illes actually listed Chaos Magicians and did not write anything derogatory about us. I wish to thank her for that mention as we are over looked and not a popular breed!
This book has things in it that I have not seen in one single book such as listing and details of movies, famous witches, tools and even hunting witches! One thing that I did not know was that many witches have pigs as familiars. Should not surprise but it was very interesting.
The book is written in a simple down to earth manner. Nothing that would go over anyone's heads and the information or trivia as one of my staff called it will not leave your head any time soon!
Chapter to chapter it will hold your attention and you may find yourself going back to read again!
One final word. There are no spells or workings to be had so if you are looking for let's say spells on ways to lose weight fast you should get another book! Other than that, which I did like the lack of workings, this is a must have book!
Other writings on the book:
Witches
peek from greeting cards and advertisements, and they dig twisted roots
from the ground. Witches dance beneath the stars and lurk around
cauldrons. Witches heal, witches scare, witches creep, and witches
teach!
A compendium of witches through the ages, from earliest prehistory to some of the most significant modern practitioners, The Weiser Field Guide to Witches
explores who and what is a witch. From such famed historical legends as
Aleister Crowley, Marie Laveau and Elizabeth Bathory to the popular
literary and cinematic figures Harry Potter and The Wicked Witch of the
West, Illes offers a complete range of the history of witches. Included
also are the sacred--Isis, Hekate, Aradia--and the profane--the Salem
Witch trials and The Burning Times. The Weiser Field Guide to Witches
is appropriate for readers of all ages and serves as an excellent and
entertaining introduction for those fascinated by the topic.
