Although I am not particularly fond of many of the self help books that are available today The Courage to Be Free was slightly different in a few respects.
The first is that the author, Guy Finley, gave useful thoughts and ideas on how to actually improve your inner thinking. There was nothing far fetched or dramatical that one should or should not do. Some of which were borderline common sense yet put in a way that sounded almost mystical if not spiritual to say the least.
One chapter that I found interesting was chapter 9; Never feel sorry for yourself. There is a list and one example stood out to me that I would like to share. That statement was:
#5. Feeling sorry for those that want you to feel sorry for them is like giving an alcoholic a gift certificate to a liquor store.
How true is that? I have recommended this book to a few of my associates that are dealing with life's little bumps in the road that they are traveling on.
Although this is a small book it is large in information that seems by the way the author wrote comes from the heart. As you read, from page to page until the end you can feel the sincerity that pours from his words written.
This is a good starting book for those that are seeking to change some aspect of their lives on a low key way. I can see that those that purchase the book would read this over and over for inspiration during times that are rougher than usual.
As a self help book I would recommend which I know is a rarity from me to read that I would do so! That is about as surprising as if seeing colon cleanse reviews by me. Usually not going to happen!
Out on shelves as of August 1st so look for your copy soon!
We
were not born with the persistent negative, self-doubting,
self-limiting thoughts and feelings most of us carry around. Those
limitations are not part of our “original equipment.” In the words of
bestselling author and beloved teacher Guy Finley, “When you realize no
else on this earth can be like you... that no other soul may know the
beauty, sorrow, light and darkness you alone are given to see, then you
will no longer want to be like anyone else on this earth. You will, at
last, be the fearless individual your heart of hearts has called you to
be.”
There is a world of wisdom in this small gem of a book. Guy Finley is a
master at opening our eyes, ears, and hearts to the plain and simple
truths of this life. We are not our sense of inadequacy, our
compulsions, our defeated thoughts and feelings. We can choose the
fearless path because we were, in fact, born fearless.
