Those of us that are in the Occult world are always on the look out for a new way to do divinations. Or not really new but new to us. Learning is a key point on all our paths.
This book, The Art and Practice of Geomancy, was new to me yet old in practice. Describing the historical background of how and when this practice was derived. The history was fascinating and well written. Until it came to the instructional part. Totally loosing me and others that I had read and attempt to try this method.
I read this book three (3) times from cover to cover and still could not understand the methods that were used. A lot of dot, dot and yes more dots to be used and none of which made any sense to me at all. Now, I have followed other methods that were a lot more detailed and confusing but I would finally be able to slowly do the method. This one, even to this date, I can not.
I am not alone in this pool of confusion of the methods used. It was confusing to those that read this book. I had ten (10) people from varying backgrounds and magical practices read and try this out. Out of the ten that did so only 1 thought they knew what they were doing yet felt uncomfortable doing so and gave up with hands in the air.
The book overall is OK. There were parts that I did not like. Such as when reading one chapter the thought was interrupted by launching into another totally different subject matter and by the time the writer went back to the original thought I had to myself go back and start reading all over again, skipping the intruding section just to try to grasp the entire concept of what was trying to be said.
This is not a book for everyone. It was a laborious read and to be brutally honest dry and boring. Subject matter seemed to jump here and there yet not being clear cut on the procedures to be used. This is just my personal opinion after 6 months or so of trying to read, read again and read yet one more time. I was glad that others felt the same way as the book left me feeling a little on the stupid side of 'not getting it'. Reminding me of the go around you have in looking for insurance quotes
Would I recommend this book? Only to those that wished to have a goal at deciphering this technique. And if they do please contact me with the kindergarten instructions I would appreciate that very much!
